‘Bruegel’s Winter Scenes’ presents a deep exploration and new interpretations of Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s paintings of winter scenes. By applying new methodological approaches and interdisciplinary research to these masterpieces of Flemish Renaissance art, offers an enhanced understanding of the painter’s relationship to his time, and the extent to which his winter landscapes were meant to reflect real-life situations.

From Titian to Rubens
In 2017 the Rubens House in Antwerp received two exceptional masterpieces on long-term loan from a private collection: the Vision of Saint Catherine, a painting that has meanwhile become known worldwide as 'David Bowie's Tintoretto', and Portrait of a Lady and her Daughter, one of Titian's rare double portraits of a woman and child. To mark the return of these two iconic paintings to their native city of Venice, the Fondazione Musei Divici di Venezia has organized, in collaboration with the Flemish Community, the City of Antwerp and VisitFlanders, a large retrospective exhibition of Flemish art. From Titian to Rubens. Masterpieces from Antwerp and other Flemish Collections provides a rich overview of the best that Flemish art has to offer. The exhibition contains important loans from the leading Flemish museums with significant collections of seventeenth-century art. It also features a selection of outstanding works from private collections in Flanders. Van Gogh, a Power Seething
I believe in the absolute necessity of a new art of colour, of drawing and 'of the artistic life, Vincent van Gogh wrote to his brother Theo in 1888. Van Gogh made us see the world in a new way. His shining landscapes of Provence and sombre portraits of workers shattered the relationship between light and dark, and his hallucinatory visions were so bright they nearly blinded the world. He was a great writer as well. In more than six hundred letters to Theo he chronicled with heart-breaking urgency his mental breakdowns, acrimonious family relations, and struggles with art dealers, who largely ignored him until the last years of his life. Shading this dark story is the artist's acquaintance with prostitutes and penury, stormy scenes with his friend Paul Gauguin, and dissipated Parisian nights with Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Renowned throughout Renaissance Europe, Pieter Coecke van Aelst produced works for the wealthiest and most important patrons of the time. While he is best known for his magnificent tapestries, he was also a consummate artist in other media, and the output from his workshop included painted altarpieces, as well as designs and cartoons for stained glass. 'Grand Design', the first comprehensive volume devoted to this Renaissance master since 1966, introduces Pieter Coecke van Aelst to a contemporary audience and places him among the great artists of the 16th century. New photographs, including fine details, reunite twenty of the splendid Renaissance tapestries made to his designs with some of his finest surviving drawings and panel paintings, while texts by thirteen prominent scholars explore Coecke's art and world.
